Drawing Classes in Perth for Kids: Sketchers Club at Faire & Co

Looking for drawing classes in Perth for a kid who’s always doodling in the margins? Sketchers Club at Faire & Co is a weekly drawing class for kids aged 7 to 14, held at our studios in Kalamunda and North Perth. Each week students learn a real drawing skill, from shading and perspective to faces and character design, and build a sketchbook full of pieces they’re proud of.

What happens in a Sketchers Club drawing class?

Each week focuses on a specific drawing skill or technique. Students work with a range of materials, including pencil, charcoal, ink and markers, and practise with guidance from our specialist facilitators.

Across a term you can expect:

  • Drawing fundamentals: shading, perspective and scale.

  • Media play: pencil, charcoal, ink and markers.

  • Figure and face drawing.

  • Creative exercises that help students find their own style.

  • Portfolio-ready pieces, great for kids heading into high school art.

Classes run for 60 minutes, with up to 16 students, and all materials are provided.

Who are Sketchers Club drawing classes for?

Sketchers Club is perfect for:

  • Kids aged 7 to 14 who love drawing and want to learn more.

  • Young artists ready to level up from doodles.

  • Kids who love cartoons, comics, manga, character design or realistic sketching.

If they’re excited by drawing and happy to sit and sketch for an hour, they’ll love it here.

What is the vibe like?

Relaxed, welcoming and focused. Think chilled music, creative chats and the occasional visit from studio dog Merlot. It’s not competitive, but our facilitators gently encourage each student to keep progressing at their own level.

As one parent, Kim, told us: “Sketchers has completely changed how my daughter sees her art. She’s more confident, more curious, and always drawing at home now.”

What pencils are best for beginners?

A question we get a lot. For kids starting out, a simple set covers most of what they need:

  • HB: a good all-rounder for sketching and outlines.

  • 2H: harder and lighter, great for early guidelines you can erase.

  • 2B and 4B: softer and darker, perfect for shading and depth.

Pencils are graded from H (harder, lighter) to B (softer, darker). Keep them sharp with an art sharpener, and store them somewhere cool and dry so the leads don’t snap.

What comes after Sketchers Club?

For keen Sketchers ready to go further, we offer Finesse, an invite-only extension class with more advanced techniques, visual storytelling and portfolio development. Chat to our team if your child wants to keep growing.
