Teen Art Classes in Perth: A Creative Space Where Teens Can Be Themselves

Teen art classes give young people a weekly place to create, switch off from screens and spend time with people who get them. At Faire & Co, our after school art classes for teens run during school term at our studios in North Perth and Kalamunda. Teens choose what they make and how they make it, with friendly teachers there to guide them. No marks, no pressure, and no “right” way to do it.

“How was school?” “Fine.” If that’s most of your conversations right now, you’re not alone. A lot of teens need somewhere to be themselves that isn’t school, home or their phone.

Why are art classes good for teenagers?

The teenage years come with a lot of pressure: school, friends, social media and working out who they are. A weekly creative hour helps in ways that are easy to miss:

  • Headspace. Creating something with your hands is a real break from screens and study.

  • Confidence. Making something that’s completely your own builds belief in yourself.

  • A way to express things. Art gives teens an outlet for feelings they can’t always put into words.

  • Friendships. Teens meet people outside their school circle who share their interests.

  • Routine. Same time, same place, same faces every week. That familiarity matters.

How is this different from art at school?

School art often leans on history, theory and assessment. That’s valuable if you’re heading towards a career in art, but it’s also why so many teens stop creating altogether. We regularly meet adults who haven’t picked up a brush since high school because they were told they weren’t “good at art”.

Our classes are the opposite. Teens decide what they want to explore, and our teachers help them get there. It’s about enjoying the process, not getting it perfect.

What teen art classes does Faire & Co run?

  • Arty Farty: Teens. An art class just for teens, working with different materials on projects designed to engage their age group. Relaxed, social and plenty of banter.

  • You-niverse. A choice-led class for teens who want creative freedom, exploring mixed media, big ideas and self-expression in a low-pressure space.

Both run weekly after school during term time. See current days and times on our [teens page].

What do parents notice?

One mum, Phillipa, shared this about her daughter: “Fay has created a safe space for my daughter, she comes alive in the studio as she feels uninhibited and free to be herself.”

That’s what we hear most often. Not that their teen’s art improved, but that their teen seems more like themselves.

How do teens get started?

Every new member starts with our Creative & Confident in 28 Days intro: four weeks to settle in, meet the group and find their feet, because nobody feels at home in week one. After that, it rolls into a monthly membership, just like a gym or Pilates studio. Your teen keeps their weekly spot, and you don’t have to rebook every term.

Want them creating over the break as well? Take a look at our [school holiday programs].
